Dog and Bear Caught on Camera in Back Yard Confrontation

A Southern Wisconsin family is feeling lucky after a chance back yard meeting between their dog and a black bear.  Reports of bear sightings in the area are up substantially from last year according to local wildlife officials.  “This year we have a heck of a lot more bear calls coming in,” DNR Conservation Warden Paul Nadolski said.  Locals are encouraged to be vigilant in securing trash in order to discourage unwanted visits.

Dogs are urged not to try this at home…

Thanks Karen. Do you have issues with viewing Flash objects in general? I’ve not been able to replicate your issue in Firefox or IE…

Yikes, Mom wouldn’t be too happy to see one of those in our yard because she is sure that TD and Ciara would go after it.

That looks almost as scary as a bear strolling up on your back porch, eh, Nigel? “Don’t turn your back on a bear if you see one…” Does curling up in the fetal position count?

I got stuck with this just now. A page reload fixed it. Slow server, so if it sticks refresh the page. Sorry for the glitch, but I like the video enough to keep it!

As a young teen camping with my dad in The Pas, Manitoba, I remember a black bear approaching our picnic table and my dad (and of course I) giving chase to scare it away. In retrospect, that was a REALLY stupid thing to do, but that time it worked out favourably.

Karen F, I think my Zeus would have been all over that bear. :/

We have a lot of them around here, so not too unusual to have to chase them away. Gotta give props to the canine.
