PA man seeks legal name change to...Boomer The Dog

PITTSBURGH — A judge is considering whether a Pittsburgh-area man can legally change his name to Boomer the Dog after a short-lived television series.
The man who went to court Tuesday is 44-year-old Gary Guy Mathews, of Green Tree. He is a fan of the 1980s NBC series “Here’s Boomer,” which featured a dog who rescued people.
But he’s also an enthusiast of Anthrocon. That’s an annual convention of people dedicated to anthropomorphism, the practice of attributing human characteristics to animals.
Mathews says his friends already call him Boomer, as did his late parents, though that took some persuading.
Allegheny County Judge Robert Folino says he’ll take a couple of days to decide. He says he could nix the request if it results in “unintended consequences” like being “seen as bizarre.”
Update: As much fun as it might have been to see this happen, a judge denied the request late last evening. Mathews is expected to appeal.

I have an idea! Let’s let him change his name to Boomer the Dog, and then we should neuter him. We don’t need lots of these guys running around.

Ummm…can’t the strange human just change his first name to Boomer, or just use it as a nickname the way he’s been doing? I don’t think he’s really dog material, either. I didn’t know about that pawticular convention, but shouldn’t be surprised. There’s one for everything. Ever since Blog Mom learned about Furries, she says nothing in the world is going to surprise her.

I saw this story on Dogster! I think he’s gone a bit too far, but we also have those guys who are tattooing themselves to become a lion and a lizard, so this guy isn’t the only one out there, I guess.

So, apparently you can name your child 2.0, but you can not name yourself Boomer? But i could name my son Luke Skywalker if i wanted to? If the guy wants to be named Boomer The Dog and he wants to pay the standard amount to process the paper work to make that happen then where is the problem?

The thing that is really weird is the anthro bit- not only weird but a bit… I dunno… there could be something dodgy there.
