NEWS RELEASE FROM MONTEREY COUNTY SPCA

The SPCA for Monterey County is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who abandoned a dog in a dumpster at the McDonald’s on Broadway Avenue in King City on Monday, January 10.

At 11:45 on Monday, a concerned citizen witnessed a man toss a small dog into a dumpster in the McDonald’s parking lot.  The dumpster is located in a fenced area and the man tossed the dog over the fence and into the dumpster. The citizen confronted the man who claimed it was not his dog. The citizen asked the man to call the SPCA and he continually denied that it was his dog. The citizen then asked for custody of the dog, and the man jumped the fence, gave her the dog, and drove away.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic adult male, 30-40 years of age, 5’8 to 5’9, with dark brown or black hair, brown eyes, and clean shaven.  He was driving a large American made white pick-up truck  with untinted windows. He had another dog, a small brown wire-hair terrier in the cab of the truck.

The rescued dog, a six to seven year old rat terrier mix, is now safe at the SPCA.  She is thin with an old injury to her left hind leg, and is missing most of her top teeth.

If caught, the owner could be charged with Penal Code 597s (Abandonment) and other possible charges.

If you have any information about this case, please contact The SPCA at 831-373-2631 or 422-4721 x213.  All calls are completely confidential.
