The University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Cancer hosts an annual benefit marathon, and this year’s race drew an interesting last minute entry – a lost dog named Dozer.

The 3-year-old goldendoodle ran through an invisible fence in his yard to join more than 2,000 people running by his home, around mile 5 of the Maryland Half Marathon.

The UMMC blog notes that “Runners reported seeing the dog at several points along the way, and he crossed the finish line with other runners at 2 hours and 14 minutes. Dozer’s owner didn’t know what had happened to him and was frantically looking for him. The dog finally came home Monday morning, with muddy feet and limping.”

Dozer has been given a clean bill of health by his vet, and this week race co-chairmen will be honoring him with a medal and dog treats. Dozer now has a runner’s page where donations can be made for cancer research at the Greenebaum Cancer Center.
