Abandoned by their mother, two rare liger cubs are being nursed by a dog at the Xixiakou Wildlife Zoo in eastern China.

The rare lion/tiger cross cubs were born earlier this month, and zoo officials say the mother tiger fed the cubs for four days before abandoning them for unknown reasons. That’s when the decision was made to try introducing them to a dog that had recently given birth to a litter of pups, and as you can see, they are now one happy, if unusual family.

Cub caretaker Zhou Xiaoguang told Channel 9 that the cubs have been “struggling to survive” since their birth but are “back to normal now.”
