The Saturday Pet Blogger Hop: I am an Animal Rescuer

I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done,
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full.

This beautifully crafted work from Annette King Tucker is frequently quoted by those who work in rescue, and with good reason – rarely has one so effectively summed up what it means to be fully committed to the betterment of animals.

Some of my shelter friends sent me this video this morning and I was truly honored to be on the receiving list of friends that got this video. Thanks for sharing it with the world. Blessing to all of those folks that rescue animals, even it it is just one. That means there is one less animal suffering one more person being blessed.

Very poignant to see this video on the same day as an image of a dog who had been shot and buried alive.

On an almost frivolous note, I love the new look of your website.

    The Thundering Herd

Fantastic video. The Herd loves every rescuer that picked us up as a stray, walked us in a shelter, pulled us to a volunteers home, cleaned us, fed us, medicated us when no one else would, and then guided us to Chez Herd. Those involved in rescue are the best and we are thankful they helped us find a forever home.

This video touched me – it’s why I foster for Homeward Bound. Really an easy thing to do. The hard part? saying goodby to another sweet dogger I have fallen in love with!

“I was born with the need to fulfill their needs”; “I have fallen in love a thousand times”; “I have bought dog food with my last dime”; “I have cried into the fur of lifeless bodies”; My house is never quiet, my wallet is always empty”; “I am an animal rescuer”…These words so reflect my belief, mind, way of thinking. Then WHY is one person judge with whom she associate, what she looks like, who she knows in order to apply such passion? Why am I not participating in rescue, here in Montreal? I am so discouradge and feel so useless…It is an everending sadness. One of the reason I want to relocate…To do what I feel I am suppose to do, why I was put here on this earth. Thank you for this wonderful piece of poetry and art images. For, animals are indeed art in motion…put by God on this earth.

I work in horse rescue professionally, own a pit who was emaciated, covered in fleas, and near death at three weeks old, and foster and rehome cats when I can. This video made me cry. The heart break I see from day to day is worth it for the reward of helping just one animal in need.

I cried. I have rescued a few dogs myself. The words said in this resonated with my belief especially the words when a rescue makes the news it gives me hope for mankind. So very true we can learn a lot just by watching animals especially dogs who give so much and expect so little. Thank you for this beautiful video. We as humans need to learn what life is really about by just watching nature at work.

I loved how it talked about no animal not being worthy of their time. I have done rescue of some of the “less desirable” animals, and feel the same for them as I do dogs. This video did such a good job of covering how rescuers feel about what they do. I loved it, and I shared it :).

Absolutely beautiful…you left nothing out. Those words touch my heart in a way I will never forget. God bless and thank you for the work you do.

A competing dog site or disgruntled fan is clicking on some of our content and marking it as spam. We’re trying to get to the bottom of it, but all you have to to is share the post from the fan page to your wall and it’s just as effective. :)

This was such a touching video – it truly warms the heart. I too am an animal rescuer and I am proud to be one. My husband feels the same way – there is no greater joy in life that rescuing an animal but in the end it is the animal that really rescues us.
