Dog Friendly Washington DC

Buster and Ty, your faithful pet travel correspondents here, with a look at pet friendly Washington, DC.

Buster: Independence Day is right around the corner, and long weekends are perfect for taking your dog on a road trip.

Ty: Washington, DC is not only an appropriate choice for the 4th of July, is also very pet friendly.

Buster: That’s true! From the White House, to the Lincoln Memorial, to the Washington Monument, to the Capital Building – dogs can see it all!

Ty: More importantly, there are great pet friendly restaurants and hotels in Washington.

Buster: Ty, you’re always worried about eating and sleeping – but I have to admit, there was so much to do that even I was pooped!

Ty: And that’s not all! In the outskirts of Washington you’ll find historical sites, a canine cruise on the Potomac River, and Arlington National Cemetery, among other pet friendly activities.

Great to know, Amy! My daughter lives near D.C., so maybe when we visit we can bring Kelly. If only Kelly liked my daughter’s cat….

Since dogs have to stick together, we’re with Kelly on this one!

Buster and Ty, you are, as always, adorable. I love DC, but never thought of it as a dog destination. I will be talking with Noodle the Poodle and Joy the Puppy about a possible future visit. Great post and pix!

personally i think that SF, Ca is incredibly pet friendly! DC is ok but i’ve lived in both cities (still reside in DC) and SF is way friendlier! i hope DC catches up :-)

We’re in wine country right now, Christina and we’ll be spending some time in San Fran this fall. We’ll let you know what we think of it!

The Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, VA, has a fun doggie happy hour twice a week. And there are a ton of great hiking spots, both in the city and surrounding VA and MD. Dogs are allowed on the Mall, Capitol grounds, and most outdoor memorial grounds, too.

We had a great time when we went through there with our two Greyhounds! I just wish we’d had a lot more time to enjoy everything there. It’s such a great place!

Some bozo tagged Life with Dogs as a spammer and we are still trying to get things straightened out. Thanks so much for the offer to help Robin. One more note to Facebook saying this site is not spam can’t hurt. =)
