“I believe that Wall-E is still with us for a certain purpose, and that purpose is threefold – that through his “tail” of miraculous survival, he is here to help his fellow four-legged friends, to remind us all of the importance of animal adoption and to stress the necessity of local spay and neuter programs. If through my art, I am able to help deliver Wall-E’s message and speak on behalf of those that cannot, then I have done my job as an artist and advocate for all animals.”
– Artist, Ron Burns

Wall-E’s tale is one of miraculous survival; the type of story that, despite our petty and not-so-petty differences, unites us all by a common thread – our adoration and love for man’s best friend.

The now-famous pup had been attempted to be euthanized twice on February 18th, 2011 – once through a vein in his leg and once directly through his chest cavity. In spite of the fact that the staff veterinarian could no longer hear or feel a pulse from the second attempt, Wall-E was found alive the following morning by shelter volunteer and vet tech Amanda Kloski. He wasn’t suffering – just hungry.

His story became a viral sensation – an international news hit that took Wall-E all the way from a small town in Oklahoma to New York City for an appearance on CBS’s Good Morning America. The pup that had a few days earlier sat in front of a grocery store adoption event in hopes of being adopted unsuccessfully was now the most sought-after pet adoption in America.

Animal artist and Philanthropist Ron Burns was personally asked by Amanda Kloski to paint a portrait of Wall-E to support the building of a new animal shelter – the Murray County Animal Shelter, a desperately-needed facility in Davis, Oklahoma. How could he say no? “In capturing Wall-E’s personality I decided to portray him in his forever home, relaxing on his favorite chair with a pillow that conveys his big heart and love for life. Next to him is a bouquet, again representing a “beautiful life”, with a shamrock arranged above his head to symbolize his good luck as well as the real shamrock-like image on his behind.” An open edition print is now available for order to support the building of The Murray County Animal Shelter.
