Florida Couple Rescues Thousands of Greyhounds

8 commentsIn 1991, Dennis Tyler fell in love when he agreed to take in Clara Voyant, a former racing greyhound, from his neighbor. And when he learned that many greyhounds, some injured while racing, faced the risk of being euthanized, he couldn’t look the other way. 
Using donations, Tyler and his wife Claire now provide medical care to the dogs, match them with compatible families, and drive them from Florida to new homes all along the East Coast through the organization Greyhound Pets of America (floridagreyhounds.com).
The Tylers have found homes for more than 7,000 greyhounds to date, and their efforts to save these magnificent dogs have earned Dennis a nomination for People Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Hero award. I don’t have room or the means to become a rescue, but I do foster these awesome dogs. Greyhounds are the best breed of dog IMO. I currently have 5 of my own. I’ve failed fostering 3 times so far and I’m sure I’ll fail again. So many need good homes. I wish everyone would adopt a greyhound or two. Once you do, you’ll be hooked for life. God Bless this couple for all they do for these greyt dogs!

I had an adopted greyhound, Kai, and anyone that wants a low maintenance dog or a very happy coach potato, these are the dogs for you. They are just the sweetest most gentle dogs.

Our first 3 greyhounds, Misty (CR’s Sabatini), Audrey (Canada’s Gabby) and Serena (Tyville Sereno) were all rescues with Dennis and Claire Tyler’s help from the Melbourne, Florida race track. They brought my husband Mike and myself 3 precious fur babies who enriched our lives and started our passion to rescue as many of these amazing dogs as possible. Our first 3 sweethearts have since crossed The Rainbow Bridge but the memories of them sharing their lives with us are always there for us to cherish. Our lives were made better because of Misty, Audrey and Serena and now we have 3 new rescued greyhound babies, Topaz (Topaz Topaz), Foxy (Diamond Blitz) and Jack (Game Is On) to share our lives with. Thank you Dennis and Claire from the bottom of our hearts for all you both do for our favorite breed.
