Deputies: Missing Man's Dog Never Left His Side

6 commentsThe body of a South Carolina boater missing for three days has been found in a cove on Lake Murray – with his faithful dog by his side. Russell L. Sandlin, 61, was last seen on Sunday when neighbors witnessed him getting into his boat with his Weimaraner, Sadie.
Sadly, a lengthy search concluded Wednesday evening when Sandlin’s body was found.
Newberry County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Robert Dennis said when rescue crews found Sandlin, Sadie was at his side, trying to remove branches from his body and stopping occasionally to lick him. She had not yet given up hope, and was trying to save him.
The incident is being investigated by the Department of Natural Resources, but is being described as an accident. Officials say that based on their initial investigation, there does not appear to be any foul play involved.
Sadie is resting and well, and was recovered by family members Thursday.
I am sorry for the families loss. I am glad that this man had a loyal friend with him to the end. I am also glad that his friend was taken in by his family. Again I am sorry for the families loss.
Poor girl. I hope she get’s the care she so greatly deserves.

Dogs are truly a gift from God. Humans could learn so much from the love and loyalty a dog provides to humans. No judgment or agenda, just love and loyalty, truly a man’s best friend. Sadie, you took care and watched over your human not only until the very end but even after he left this earth. There is a place with your name on it in Heaven, Sadie. May God and your other humans comfort you in your time of loss.

To the family: I too am sorry for your loss, it is a gift to not die alone. Man or beast can comfort. Sweet Sadie gave what she could. Such a special pup.
