Conservationists Enlist Canine to Help Save Endangered Penguins

An English springer spaniel named Eco has been trained by the NSW Parks and Wildlife Services to sniff out a colony of penguins on Sydney’s North Head.

With only about 60 (estimated) breeding pairs remaining in Australia, conservation is critical, and Eco is doing her part to assist in tracking and location of the rare birds. In an ironic twist, scientists are turning to one of the penguin’s natural predators to help save it. Meet Eco and see her hard at work in this fascinating report from ABCau.

Very wise move. I hope she works out. I sure do like that people are trying to save an endangered species using man’s best friend. Now she is the penguin’s best friend.
