Our pitty Gonzo get’s sent to his crate for time out when he is in trouble. So we know that whenever he goes in there by himself, we need to look around because he has done something that he knows he is going to be in trouble for, lol.
@ Holly Treat, our dogs close doors and the safety gates at our house all the time just by pushing them with their noses, so I can see this dog doing it too.
My dogs kennel themselves when they’ve done something they shouldn’t have. That’s how I know. They know when I say *gasp* “who did this?!?” And if one of them wasn’t in on the trouble…they will run around and bark at me almost to say “he did it..I had nothing to do with it”. While the other is already in their kennel

LOL! None of my dogs ever sent themselves to their crates when they were bad! They would just look at me asking ‘Mom, when are you going to clean this up?’!
Tooo CUTE!!! Our baby Howie tells on himself. When we look at him and he has done something, he wont look at us, he puts his head down and you know he did something. I always laugh and say why do you tell on yourself?? I always say its ok. The only time we say something is if its the garbage and we just say oooew now you have barbage breath yuck!! Yes I say barbage.
When my older Boxer felt the younger one was getting too much attention she would close herself in the powder room to get us focused on her. We disabled the door knob, so then when she tried this, the younger Boxer would hear it and run over and nose the door open for her! It had the same effect but saved us getting up!
tee hee hee….my little Keetah (I call her my angel dog)…any time I ask about somebody doing something, she always gets that body language that SHE did it…when I know better than that! Usually, she’s the LAST of my kids I’d suspect. Dogs are so entertaining an funny! You just have to smile!
My little boston terrier hides under the bed and when she sneaks out she’ll sit on the couch and we ask her, “Pookie, were you bad?” and she’ll put her head down, shiver, and wont make eye contact. It is the funniest thing! How can you stay mad at that?!

Dogs should not be sent to crates for punishment. Crates/Kennels are supposed to be a safe zone for them, not a tool for discipline.
