Soldier Rescues Litter of Abandoned Newborn Puppies

MAKAHA, Hawaii — Beefy, Creamy, Flash, Mr. Henry, Snoopy and Stumpy owe their lives to Spc. Erik Lowe, 9th Mission Support Command, and his wife, Martina.
During a routine morning run by his home, a faint whimpering in nearby bushes brought Erik Lowe to a halt. From the distance, he thought the whimpering was a couple of cats. However, nothing could have prepared him for what he and his wife were about to see: 14 newborn puppies covered in bugs, fleas and blood.
Six were lying motionless in a plastic bag and eight more were placed around the bag. After securing his own dog, Chico, the Lowes wrapped the day-old puppies in a blanket and rushed them to the nearby Waianae Veterinary Clinic.
Two died within the first 24 hours, and with round-the-clock bottle-feeding, constant attention and love, the Lowes nursed six back to life.
“Since these puppies were hand raised, they need to go to someone who has time for them,” Martina said, adding that all the puppies are up-to-date on all their shots. “We do not want these dogs to end up chained-up outside in someone’s yard, be used for hunting or fighting. They are family dogs.”
According to U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii’s policy memorandum, “Discipline, Law and Order,” it is illegal to abandon animals on military installations.
Furthermore, Hawaii state law (143-2.6) on animal desertion states, “It shall be unlawful for the owner of any animal or any person in possession of an animal that belongs to another person to leave the animal without the intention of returning to it. Any person who violates this section shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor.”
Now recovered, one would never guess these pups had a brush with death.
“I don’t know what kind of person could just throw a living creature away,” Erik said. “It was a lot of work to get them where they are today, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

I hope with all my heart the disgusting cowards who did this are haunted nightly by the souls of the poor little pups they killed. Humans who are capable of cruelty to animals are capable of anything.

I am so happy the pups are given a chance, and i hope they find the person or persons, that did that and do the same to them…..there is NO EXCUSE for doing that….i hope Karma gets them in the end!!!!!!!

I’m so disappointed in the lack of compassion people have for animals. We need to teach children at a very young age that animals are God’s creatures and we should love and be kind to them.

As far as Im concerned the same cold hearted people who left those little mericles for dead also treat children and adults badly too! When my young dog got preggo I wasnt happy about it happening but she received all the Love and care she needed of course my other dog was treated equally when the puppies were born they received all the love in the world actually according to friends I spoiled them but when it came time for them to find homes they were happy and healthy i had a friend decide she wanted one just through watching them frolliking happily in the grass! she said it had been years since shed seen a puppy so happy

Thank God Erik walked by when he did to save those puppies. But why don’t people just take the puppies to a shelter if they don’t want them? How can people live with themselves knowing that they are letting an animal suffer like that? Us sane people will never know.

Believe it or not, but a very similar thing happened to my sister. It’s very unfortunate that this happens more than we know, but it’s extremely fortunate that ppl are placed in the right place at the right time

I’m really glad the Lowes saved those beautiful pups from death! They are so adorable! It would have been such a waste of life for those pups if they had not been found. Whoever left them are heartless and I hope that person got caught!
