WSVN-TV –

It will be a wonderful life after all for a dog that was thrown out the window of a truck in a plastic bag.  The dog, now named Scrappy, has been adopted and is living joyfully with his new forever family.  He has Richard Powers to thank for saving his life, as Powers is the good samaritan who witnessed the driver of the truck throwing the bag from the moving vehicle on Interstate 95 in Florida.

“I’m a dog lover myself,” said Powers. “I have four dogs. I couldn’t just leave him there.”  So Powers took him to Family Pet Medical Center to find that remarkably Scrappy had few injuries, but he was very traumatized. “Scrappy came in very, very scared. Very unsure of everybody. He had a lot of hair missing,” said veterinarian Dr. Sharon Glass.

The story of Scrappy’s rescue made the news and attracted the attention of Lisa Pezullo, who has other rescue dogs.  She knew immediately that she had to adopt him, saying “I felt so bad for him. I just thought I’d be the one that could give him a good home.”  Scrappy is a different dog now that he has a loving family and Dr. Glass is relieved that someone was able to give him a new start. “It’s really nice to see him come around and start to trust people again after what happened to him,” she said.

The driver of the truck has unfortunately not been found, but at least there are hero’s out there like Powers who are willing and happy to step up.  He is surely the reason that Scrappy is alive and well with his new forever family today.
