Phoebe, the dog who was buried up to her neck and then shot in the head is alive and well, amazing considering all that she has been through.  The two year old pit bull mix was found in Hillsborough County, Tampa six weeks ago with a gunshot wound and weighing only 30 pounds.  Despite this unthinkable act of cruelty, the dog which has since been named Phoebe, is now happily recovering.

Animal control is still conducting a search for the person who committed this heinous act, and a $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.  “More than likely it was someone within that community where she was found,” said Pam Perry of Animal Services.

Phoebe is doing very well, and has gained 14 pounds in the month since the incident putting her almost at a normal weight for her size. She loves children, and is great with other dogs and is now being put up for adoption.  “She’s a wonderful dog, and she’ll make for a wonderful companion,” Perry said.  Animal services is currently taking applications for Phoebe, and some have already been received.  All applicants will be reviewed and a decision made in January.

While Phoebe will have to wait a bit longer to find her forever home, she has a special day coming up on Saturday.  She will get to meet Santa Claus on  at the Hillsborough County Animal Services facility on Falkenburg Road. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and families are welcome to bring their kids who can make Christmas ornaments with Phoebe’s picture on them.  She also got her own float in the Santa Fest parade and had a wonderful time meeting and greeting all of her fans and supporters.
