Max will get his surgery thanks to a benefit concert thrown this past weekend by 15-year-old Kyle Sholinder.
In December Max was diagnosed with a slipped disc that could paralyze him. His family noticed something was wrong when he started stumbling around and bumping into things. The Sholinder family couldn’t afford the $7,000 surgery needed to treat Max. Kyle Sholinder didn’t give up on saving his best friend though. He came up with the idea to organize a benefit concert to raise the necessary funds.
The concert featured local teen performers and included a silent auction. In total the “Save the Dog” concert raised $2,649. The Sholinder family also received more than $3,300 in donations as Kyle’s story to save Max gained media attention. Although the family hasn’t reached its goal of $7,000 yet they are close enough to have scheduled an appointment for Max to have a pre-operative exam.
The family continues to raise money and any funds they receive in excess will be donated to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society. After the success of the “Save the Dog” the Sholinder’s are considering helping other dogs. “After we take care of Max who thinks we should turn this into a foundation to raise money for other animals in need of help?” was posted on the Sholinder’s “Save the Dog” Facebook page.
