Children at the Hansen School in Canton, Massachusetts were excited for a special visitor this week. A dog named Hachie came to visit the children and thank them for raising money to help pay for his surgery.
Hachie broke his leg last month when he was trampled by a horse. His owners could not afford the medical costs to care for him and put him up for adoption. PAWS New England and Randolph Animal Hospital worked together to get Hachie the care he needed.
The students at the Hansen School raised the funds to pay for Hachie’s care. “They made posters, they really put it out there. They talked to classes and let them know what’s happening with the dog, why we need the money, what it’s going for,” said fourth grade teacher Lauren Mahan. In total the kids raised over $400.
Last week Hachie got his surgery. And he is recovering well. To say thanks Hachie came to visit the children. “When I told them yesterday that Hachie was coming, there were tears in their eyes,” said Mahan. In addition to the excitement of meeting Hachie, PAWS New England informed the students that one of their dogs is about to give birth and as a thank you the students will get to name the puppies. “It really makes me feel good about the future of our culture when I know kids this young are reaching out to join forces about something they care about,” said Dr. Susan Harrington who treated Hachie.
