It took a little help from their friends but three Detroit Metro area rescue groups won’t have to worry about food for a year. The Michigan Animal Rescue League, Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter and Genesee County Animal Control all will have 100 per cent of their core dog food needs met by the Pedigree Feeding Project at no cost.
The Friends for the Dearborn Animal Control Shelter plan on using the food they already have to enhance their community outreach and adoption programs. The Shelter cares for 2500 to 2600 dogs every year.
Pedigree opened up the program to new recipient shelters earlier this year and dog lovers around the US nominated their favorite groups and shelters. A few months later in March Grammy award-winning Country artist Miranda Lambert announced that five communities had become finalist. The three shelters were among the five finalists.
Pedigree began its search for new communities to assist earlier this year. In January, dog lovers across the country visited the Pedigree Facebook page to nominate a community or shelter that was close to their heart. In March, Pedigree and Grammy musician Miranda Lambert announced that five communities, including the three shelters in southeast Michigan, were finalists in the contest.
Then Lambert announced the news that the three Detroit area shelters had the kind of help they could only dream about. “I’m honored to congratulate Detroit/Flint, MI and Erie, PA on being chosen as part of the Pedigree Feeding Project. Welcome aboard, guys!”
Shelters in Nashville and Chicago both joined the roster of lucky shelters benefitting from Pedigree’s kindness.
