When police saw an emaciated dog outside 29-year-old Amanda Wise’s Dolton, Ill., home, they decided to investigate. What they found was more dogs suffering from animal cruelty.

On July 10, 2013, Cook Country Sheriff’s police responded to an animal cruelty call. When they arrived at Wise’s home they discovered eight pit bull mixes with no access to drinking water or food. Some were chained to a fence, and others were restrained in crates.

According to the sheriff’s office, there was no indication of dog fighting on the property, however, one female canine showed severe signs of malnutrition.

Wise was arrested and charged with eight counts of animal neglect in addition to obstructing a peace officer after originally supplying a false name.

All eight dogs are being cared for at South Suburban Humane Society.
