Though Idaho may not be at the top of everyone’s destination bucket list, one place worth checking out, especially for dog lovers, is the Dog Bark Park Inn.

Husband and wife chainsaw artists were working at the Dog Bark Park since 1997. Their big break came in 1995, when their dog-shaped wood carvings were sold on QVC. They earned enough money to construct what is undoubtedly the coolest bed & breakfast in the states.

Rates are incredibly reasonable at $98/night for two people to stay in a room that offers a queen size bed, futon bed, air conditioning, a microwave and a small refrigerator. There is a full bathroom, hair dryer, clock radio and coffee maker. There is no phone or television, but there are books, games and puzzles. Breakfast is included, and features The Prairie’s Best Fruited Granola, cereal, yogurt, bagels and homemade pastries.

And of course, “responsible pets arriving with their well-behaved humans are welcome to stay with prior approval.”

Owners Dennis and Frances also provide a gift shop, allowing you to commemorate your stay with a wooden dog carving. There is a choice of over 60 breeds, but the couple can also work from customer photos to create a work of art that looks like their own dog.  Their work can also be purchased online. The couple does their part to help the environment by reusing and re-purposing shipping materials.
