Earlier this year, a group of Airsoft players (Axios Airsoft Group) from Antogagasta, Chile, where on their way to a game when they heard faint dog cries nearby. Upon investigating, they discovered two young dogs fighting for their lives inside a tar pit. Immediately, the Good Samaritans made it their mission to rescue and save the dogs.

The dogs were found in tar pits allegedly made by disregarded toxic waste from Chilean corporations. It is said that in Chile, companies are not closely regulated on how they dispose their waste and this is why large pools of toxic material can be found along Chile’s dessert roads.
What is disheartening is that in the case of these dogs, their irresponsible and cruel owner probably decided to get rid of the dogs by drowning them in the tar pits.
When the Axios found the two struggling dogs, they also found five other dead puppies in a second tar pool.
The team members worked tirelessly to pull the dogs to safety. They cleaned off as much tar as they could before transporting the innocent animals to a nearby veterinarian.
Local animal rescue group, Gatos Abandonados Antofagasta took in the innocent animals and initiated the dogs’ long road to recovery.

Volunteers teamed up to bathe the dogs until they were completely clean and veterinarians watched the dogs’ progress closely, administering medicines as needed.
The rescue group took to social media and news outlets to urge the public to help cover all medical costs.
The dogs, a male and female named Lancelot and Laica, have become somewhat of celebrities in Chile since rescued. The pets have their own Facebook page and have made several TV appearances. All this in an effort to spread awareness on the cruelty they were exposed to and hoping they’ll find loving forever homes.

Until today, the dogs have not been adopted. Lancelot and Laica are currently under foster care and the rescue group continues to ask the public for donations to cover the dogs’ expenses.
Gatos Abandonados Antofagasta hopes both dogs will be adopted out together, but no one yet has shown interest to take in both dogs.
