Do you know a creative kid who enjoys writing? Pets Add Life, a non-profit organization supported by the American Pet Products Association, has announced their 6th annual poetry contest for children. This is a contest for all children in grades 3rd – 8th across the nation. Entries are being accepted through January 31, 2014, for unique poems about the joys and benefits of owning pets of all types. Whether it’s love for a cat, dog, gerbil, bunny, iguana, turtle or fish, or any other type of pet, this contest encourages kids to get creative and share their love for their pet in a personal poem.

One student from each grade level nationwide will win a $250 gift certificate for pet products, and a “by-line” in a nationally circulated publication or online outlet. That’s six (6) winners total! Additionally, each winning student will also receive a $1,000 scholarship for their classroom to spend on pet-related education, or to support a classroom pet.

Cody
From the moment we got you
I totally fell in love
With a smile that melts my heart
You are cuter than a polar bear cub

You have puppy-dog eyes
You have soft little ears
And giant memories
I’ll remember for years

Memories filled with tears
Happiness and more
Those memories I remember
Have never tore

From bad times to good times
You are always on my side
You never give up
You always have your pride

I love dogs
But you are my first ever
I only have one wish
To keep you forever
