All animal rescuers wish that every dog who walks through a shelter finds a forever home, but for many dogs this wish never comes true. Some dogs are lucky and find a home within days – if not weeks – but other dogs wait years for a second chance at a happy ending.

Meet Tanya. She is a 7-year-old American Staffordshire/Mastiff mix dog who was abandoned at just six months old. Since her young age she lived at Yonkers Animal Shelter in New York.

For more than 2,500 days Tanya had passed up, ignored, and forgotten. No one visiting the shelter was interested in offering her a home. Two different rescues promised to pulled her and help her find her way home, but they never delivered on their promise. A possible adopter even showed interested, but in the end, Tanya was left behind in the shelter hoping someone else will come and lover her.

Luckily, Tanya’s luck changed on Nov. 23, 2013. Mr. Bones & Co., a small animal welfare group from Brooklyn, NY took Tanya into their foster program. They promised to find her a forever home and until then, they are not taking in any other dogs.

Despite spending seven years at a shelter, Tanya grew up to become a loving dog.

“Tanya is affectionate, has excellent leash manners and is great with people,” said Mr. Bones & Co.

In an effort to help Tanya find her forever home, Mr. Bones & Co. have created a touching video (see above) featuring Tanya and showing how much love this gentle dog has to offer.

On Dec. 3, 2013 Mr. Bones & Co. posted the following on their Facebook wall:
“After ten days adjusting to life outside of a shelter, [Tanya] is being formerly evaluated by our amazing trainers tonight. We are looking forward to learning even more about this gentle lady and what her ideal home will need. So far, we know she’s a cuddler, and a complete lady. She is very clean, calm and loving. Her seven year journey home is going to have one epic ending!”

In Tanya’s video, animal rescuers say they are willing to travel 4 hours to transport her to a forever loving home. Could you be the one to show Tanya a life outside the shelter walls?

For now Tanya is enjoying her new life in a foster home, but after seven years without having a human to call her own it is time for her to learn what it means to be unconditionally loved.
