On March 13, 2014, 28-year-old Donato Huarocalla Salazar went fishing in Ventanilla, Peru. He brought along his best friend, his dog, but unfortunately the fisherman never returned home.

According to 90 Segundos, Salazar’s family became worried about his well-being when hours went by and the man and dog did not come home. Family members headed out to look for the fisherman, and when they arrived at the beach they found the dog sitting near the shore, guarding his human’s fishing gear.

A search and rescue unit was deployed but nothing was found.

Seven days later police made a gruesome discovery. Salazar’s body had washed up to shore.

It is believed Salazar sat on beach boulders while fishing, but he probably fell, injured himself and drowned. He left behind a wife, a 2-year-old son, and his loyal pet.

Family member brought back home the loyal canine the same day his owner went missing. The pet, along family members, neighbors, and friends deeply miss Salazar.
