On March 7, 2014, Dallas Police Officers found a dog seeking refuge behind a big box store off of I-30 and Cockrell Hill Rd. The officers didn’t have the heart to ignore the pet in need, they wanted to help him. Instead of pushing him off the property or calling animal services to have the pet picked up, the officers contacted local rescue group Duck Team 6 for assistance.
When the officers found the large size dog, he was seeking refuge from a rain storm. The male canine was sleeping and completely drenched with the rain water.
“Dallas Police Officers called at 2 a.m. asking if we could help,” posted JP with Duck Team 6 on their Facebook wall. “I just happened to be up and saw the initial text and then got the phone call. How do you say ‘no’ to Dallas Police Officers who want to help a dog in this situation, even if it is 2 a.m.?”
JP immediately jumped into action, agreed to rescue the animal, and set off to pick up the four-legged friend.
“[The officers] watched over him until I was able to pick him up,” said JP. “Thank you officers for looking out for him. [He] hopped right into the car.”
The stray dog is dark in color and has medium-long hair. When found he was wearing a collar but unfortunately he had no tags or microchip that could help identify him.
Duck Team 6 is committed to help the pet find his owner. The organization contacted Dallas Animal Services (DAS) and posted “Found Dog” fliers in an effort to reunite him with his loving owners. Later today, the pet was taken to a veterinarian for a checkup and a bath.
Because Duck Team 6 relies on foster homes to house the animals they rescue, this sweet lost dog is in need of a foster home.
“It takes a village to save a dog,” posted JP. “He’s not out of the woods yet, folks. Tomorrow, we will need to move him to DAS. We simply don’t have available fosters. We will check to see if another group can take him in, but everyone is usually full.”
If you know who this pet belongs to, please contact Duck Team 6 and help reunite the pet with his or her owner. If you are interested in fostering the stray please fill an application.
