On July 18, 2014, a Mississippi woman found and injured pet on a country road. The female stray only had three legs, and upon a closer look, it was discovered the leg the pet was missing had been purposely removed.

The dog was rushed to a vet clinic, and a veterinarian concluded the dog’s leg had been cut off under the knee just a few weeks prior. No one knows who could have abused this sweet girl.

When the dog was found, the dismembered leg had started to heal, however, in order for the stray to have a better quality of life, the remaining portion of her leg needed to be amputated.

The stray has been named Amya after her rescuer, and Brookhaven Animal Rescue League (BARL) stepped up to care for her.

On July 22, Amya’s injured leg was amputated. BARL is covering her medical costs, but they are raising funds to help cover the pet’s ongoing medical expenses.

The woman who rescued the stray agreed to foster Amya’s until a loving forever home could be found for the sweet dog.
