Three boys became heroes for a little wirehaired pointer-Jack Russell terrier who was cruelly dumped in a locked trash bin in an Ontario park recently.  The pup likely would have died had it not been for these terrific kids!

The three boys were playing in Cambridge, Ontario’s Victoria Park when they noticed the sound of a barking dog.  They couldn’t see one anywhere around, so they decided to investigate.

“We heard it coming from the garbage can,” Gills Haskell explained.

They were unable to get any further than the can’s top layer of trash, so they called 911.  Police and animal control officers arrived, and used bolt cutters to retrieve the dog from the bottom of the can.

“It looked like he had been in there for a while,” said Alex Fullerton, another of the boys who found him.  “He looked really hungry and sad.”

The dog was named Lucky and taken to the Cambridge & District Humane Society.

“He’s so outgoing and he’s so friendly,” said OSCPA investigator Tracy Laraway.  “I honestly don’t know what they were thinking, to put a dog in a dumpster to fend for itself. Thankfully those boys called it in.”

It is unknown who disposed of the dog or how long he was in there.  Anyone with information is advised to call the police.

For now, Lucky will be recuperating until he is well enough to be adopted.  If you would be interested in giving him a home, please click here.
