We’ll admit it, we’re kinda’ obsessed with our dogs. So when the folks at Pixelist told us they could turn photos of our dogs into handmade oil paintings, we were intrigued. Then they showed us this video and our jaws hit the floor…

Watch the video.

Pixelist paintings start at $149 for a 12X12 inch painting. The painting of the springer spaniel from the video was 20X20 inches, which goes for $309 on their website. Seems like a fair price for such amazing work.

We took a look through the site and saw a bunch of example paintings. They also paint people, landscapes, or pretty much any photo you send them. Not all the paintings are quite as perfect as the dog in the video (that was definitely a great photo!). But they are all impressive works of photorealistic art that we’ve really never seen before. “Dog paintings are probably our most popular order,” says co-founder Will Freeman. “But it’s usually people ordering paintings of friends’ dogs as gifts.” That makes a lot of sense. This would be the perfect gift for the dog-lover who has everything.

Pixelist also lets you preview your finished painting by email.

“Most people love their painting as soon as they see it” says Freeman. “But we do as many touch ups as necessary to make sure our customers are happy before we ship.”

That’s a really nice feature to have for a custom made product.
