On January 21, 2015, A.D.O.R.E. Houston received a call about a dog with no face wandering the city streets. The rescue group set off to find and rescue this dog and they found him next to a dead dog believed to have been the injured dog’s best friend.

The dog with no face was named Apollo, and the extent of his injuries were unimaginable.

The pet’s nose and snout were missing, strips of dead skin and debris hung from his face, yet somehow this dog survived life on the street even when half of his face was missing and a strong infection set in on what was left of his face.

A.D.O.R.E. Houston rushed the dog to Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic. There, the pet received emergency medical attention and was later transported to Westbury Animal Hospital for further examination. Veterinarians and rescuers believed the injury was human inflicted and they planned to somehow help Apollo and give him his face and health back.

A large social media campaign was set in place. People from all over the world donated to help Apollo get reconstructive surgery. Thanks to the thousands of donations, the faceless dog got his face back.

Angela Madeksho, with A.D.O.R.E. Houston, said that veterinarians were able to pull a miracle and reconstruct Apollo’s face using the healthy skin that was still hanging on the dog’s face. The dog does not have a nose, but he is able to breathe and his sense of smell was not lost.

Even though this dog endured extreme abuse and anguish while living on the streets, Apollo remains a sweet dog. He is currently in a foster home and hopes to meet his forever family soon.
