Ivy is a four-month-old puppy from Georgia who was born with a deformed vertebrae. This birth defect limits her mobility, and even though she has some control of her back legs, for the most part she drags the half of her body. Ivy needs a $7,000 surgery to repair her spinal cord, and thanks to a few Facebook posts and the generosity of many animal lovers, the pup will get the surgery she desperately needs.

The Georgia SPCA introduced Ivy on Facebook on April 16, 2015. They worked with veterinarians to determine the damage and set a plan in place to help her regain her mobility. A fundraising page was started to garner funds for the pup’s expensive surgery, and even though people donated, her rescuers believed it would take a long time to raise all required funds.

Surprisingly, just 13 days later Ivy’s fundraising goal was met and now the puppy is getting the surgery she needs.

We learned about Ivy through Linda Hickey, Xena the Warrior Puppy’s mom. Hickey met the disable pup and on April 28, 2015, and she posted Ivy’s story on Xena’s Facebook wall.

Hickey asked Xena’s supporters to consider donating towards the puppy’ surgery, and in a matter of hours, generous animal lovers donated more than enough to get Ivy into the operating room.

“In just hours we EXCEEDED Ivy’s goal of $7,000 for her back surgery and rehabilitation,” posted Hickey. “I can’t seem to find the words to tell you how I feel. I thank you for saving another life.”

Thanks to the outpouring support, Ivy is getting her spinal surgery today.

“Today, Ivy gets the life altering surgery she needs to be able to walk again and it’s all thanks to the generosity of strangers who believed that she deserved a normal life,” said the Georgia SPCA.

It will be a long road to recovery, but Ivy will regain her mobility and once again will be able to run like a normal dog.
