Nothing says “welcome to the neighborhood” like getting your truck and dog stolen on moving day. This was the nightmare a man from Reno, Nevada, lived through on May 16, 2015. Luckily, police officers located the dog and the truck a few hours after they went missing.

Jewel, a two-and-a-half year-old border collie was sitting inside his owner’s 2014 Ford F-150 while the dog owner was moving into his new home off of Virginia Lake Way. Minutes later, the man came out to find his truck and dog had vanished.

Authorities were contacted immediately and a search for the stolen property and pet ensued.

Jewel’s owner told police that a few minutes before his dog went missing, he saw a couple in their late 20s and early 30s hanging around his home. The pet owner described the suspects saying they were white, the man measuring 5 feet 8 inches and the woman no taller than 5 feet 5 inches.

Hours after Jewel and the truck were stolen, police found the abandoned truck with the dog still inside it. The dog appeared unharmed and police officers reunited Jewel with the worried owner.

Police have no leads on the thieves and no arrests have been made, but Jewel is back safe in the arms of her owner.
