On July 31, 2015, police officers from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, came to the rescue of a black puppy that fell inside a sewer drain. Thanks to a local man who spotted the dog, a rescue unit was dispatched to retrieve the scared pet.

It was early morning when a man walking near the open sewer drain noticed the pet lying on top of garbage about five feet below street level. The good Samaritan informed officers patrolling the area and these contacted a rescue unit.

Officers Noel Estrada and Carlos Ortiz were dispatched to scene to rescue the pet believed to be approximately six to one year old.

It didn’t take long for the officers to secure and retrieve the pet. Once the puppy was out of the drain, the officers covered him with blankets and transported him to the San Juan municipal shelter on Kennedy Ave.

The dog was not wearing ID tags. We hope his owners are searching for him and visit the shelter to claim him.
