8.7.15 - Dog Calls 911 & Pulls Owner from Fire3

A blind woman’s life was saved on Thursday morning when her Philadelphia home caught on fire.  The woman’s service dog, Yolanda, alerted emergency services by calling 911, and then dragged her human outside.

The sexagenarian had a specialized phone for Yolanda to call 911, which is just what she did before getting them both outside to safety.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire, and emergency responders brought the woman to a hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Enough damage was caused to displace the pair, so they are now staying in temporary lodgings.

Red Paw Emergency Relief Team, which provides, shelter and veterinary care for pets after crises, brought Yolanda food, treats, a bed, toys and other supplies.  The American Red Cross is also helping.

This is not the first time Yolanda has been a hero; last year her owner fell and lost consciousness.  She called 911 in that instance as well.
