Remi, an abused pit bull from Chester Penn., was used as a bait dog then tossed by his abusers once the dog was no longer “good for business.” However the 1.5-year-old dog left for dead is alive and on the mend thanks to two teenage girls. They found the injured dog on the side of the road last week and immediately called authorities to get the dog the help he desperately needed.
Animal Control officer Russ Harper was dispatched to the dog’s location and when he arrived he thought he was too late to help the dog.
“He was lifeless and I honestly thought the dog was dead,” Harper told Fox 29 News.
The pet hardly registered a body temperature and his bloodied body displayed numerous bite wounds consisted with bait dog and dog fighting injuries, but when officer Harper realized the injured dog was still alive, he transported him to Keystone Veterinary Emergency clinic.
Remi came in 15 lbs underweight and his injuries are substantial, but he is slowly making strides to get healthy again. When he first arrived at the clinic the dog couldn’t stand on his own, but thanks to the excellent medical care he has received, he is now eating better and standing and walking for short periods of times.
Even though Remi probably never felt a loving touch, he has embraced his rescuers and wags his tail whenever they or the medical staff come to visit him. His road to recovery will be a long one. Not only is he fighting superficial wounds but also internal infections. Veterinarians are hopeful the dog will fully recover.
There is an open investigation to identify the dog’s abuser. A $2,500 reward is being offered to anyone with information on the identity of Remi’s abusers. Anyone with information should call 215-942-6363 or email [email protected].
