On Nov. 30, 2015, The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) rescued a black Pomeranian-mix dog from a garbage container located on the 19000 block of Harned in Detroit. The dog was almost lifeless, had extensive injuries and was almost frozen to death. Rescuers rushed him to a veterinarian but unfortunately it was too late to save the dog’s life.

According to Detroit Free Press, the abused dog purposely tossed in the container and left to die was found around 8:15 a.m. A resident called to report the abandoned dog and said it was unclear if the pet was still alive.

When MHS workers arrived, the dog was clinging to life. An MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care veterinarian examined the pooch and determined the dog’s injuries were beyond repair. It was best put the dog to sleep and end his suffering.

“Someone put the dog in the trash can.” said Debby MacDonald, MHS Chief Cruelty Investigator. “There is no way he got in there by himself. [This abuse is] unacceptable, and it needs to be unacceptable to us as a community. We need to be a voice for these animals, we need to take action to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We need to make sure the person who is responsible for this is brought to justice.”

There is a $2,500 reward offered by the Humane Society for anyone with information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigation Department at 313-872-3401.
