One could say that the year 2016 didn’t exactly start out great for a family from Portsmouth, Virginia. Jamie Lassiter and her family had their adorable, little puppy stolen from them. Not only was 4-month-old Dallas stolen, but she was also seen put up for sale online.
Lassiter said that Dallas was taken at about 10:30 in the morning. They went to call her back inside, and she didn’t come in. They thought that maybe she was interested in something in the yard, but when they went out to look, she was nowhere to be seen. They also noticed that the front gate, normally closed and latched, was left hanging open.
“We kind of walked the yard and realized someone had actually opened the gate and Dallas was missing,” Lassiter told local news outlets. “She had been outside only about 30 minutes.”
The family gathered together with some friends, and some helpful neighbors, and a search for Dallas was started. They searched up and down Avondale Drive, and the surrounding neighborhood, but no one laid eyes on the little dog. That is until two days later when she showed up on a for sale sign.
“We knew it was her, because there’s a really specific mark on her forehead that we recognize from the pictures we already had at home,” said Lassiter. She says the family has a ton of photos of Dallas as they just adopted her, and she was part of many family pictures over the holidays.
“We had told our kids that we wouldn’t be getting a dog soon. We weren’t prepared. We weren’t ready. We gave them all kinds of excuses and their dad decided to surprise them with Dallas,” she said.
Lassiter said that the sale ad posted online wasn’t up long. She’s not sure if the dog was purchased, or the person that has her took the post down for some other reason. Either way, the family just wants their dog back.
“If somebody did purchase the dog, we’re not looking to cause any trouble for you. We’ll happily help you try to recoup what you paid for the dog, but we really just want to get Dallas back at this point,” she said.
What lowlife could do such a thing to this dog and her family!? And then to post it on Craig’s List? I hope that whomever bought the dog (if they did), shows some decency and returns the dog to the rightful owner. And I also hope that they turn in the lowlife who stole her. He deserves punishment.
Please call law enforcement. This is your dog. You can prove it and get your precious pup back.
Pet owners need to stop thinking “lost/found” when it comes to their pets disappearing & treat it more like “theft/crime.” First, if you have a puppy (less than 2 years), NEVER let it outside by itself. There are a LOT of pet theft/flipping rings that act very fast to steal puppies, then resell them online. If you think your dog has been stolen, REPORT it to police. The FBI began on Jan 1, 2016 tracking crimes against pets nationally. Abuse, neglect, theft, fighting rings are all often connected to larger crime in the community. The only way to stop it in yours is if the police know about it.

That was a cruel comment! Its people like you that I would look to first in the taking of this dog.
That was a cruel comment! Its people like you that I would look at in the theft of this little dog!
Then report it to FBI to track down the theft.
In this day and age you can’t let any dog out unattended, much less a puppy. Too many evil people looking to make a quick buck and/or looking for bait dogs.
Cannot believe how greedy people are and all on the first day of a new year! Hope they get banged up and punished severely for this! I hope puppy returns to his/her loving family soon!
Pray you get your baby back and hope the very worst end for the thieves.
I agree with Karin Moro…can’t leave dogs unattended outside anymore…not blaming anyone…this is very sad. Hope this pup is found safe and sound
Losing faith in humans again. Argh! Hope the police can locate and prosecute the scumbags who stole the dog. Also, hope Dallas gets to go home to her family soon.
So sad..hoping you’ll get your furbaby back soon
Omg, I hope you’ll get her back soon!
I hate people.
I know that someone should be able to find the thief.
That is one reason I will not let mine out unattended. They are always leashed
My dogs are the same, if they are out, I am with them and they are leashed. I have neighbors that allow their dogs to free roam the neighborhood. Then they yell at me when I tell them to leash their dog. I have a Malinois, she barks at anything including the wind changing direction. My neighbors have said if my dog wasn’t so vicious she could be off leash to wander and play with the other dogs. Well, she isn’t vicious, which is none of their business and no, she does not need to wander and play. She needs to be safe and secure. Along with her Labrador brother & sister and feline brother & sister.
Horrible!!!!!!!!!!
Why didn’t they buy the dog as soon as they saw the posting? Then deal with
WHY do people leave their dogs outside for so long unattended…I have a 6ft fence that is always padlocked and I still don’t leave my dogs out unattended for more than a few minutes…..what is wrong with people,

Track these people down! Don’t waste any time!
Disgusting and heartbreaking for the owners. There are. Some cruel wicked people around.
This is why I hate people
People involved in anything like this should just be shot, we’ve been patient enough
How could anyone be so cruel. There are lots of dogs out there waiting for parents. Please bring the puppy back. Distressed animal lovers waiting.
Whats the site?!? Get the police involved!!!! Ill buy the dog and give it back!!!!!
A puppy, especially one that young should not be left outside alone for 30 minutes in the first place.
Shared and I live in Portsmouth VA
So sorry to hear another dog stolen a puppy this time and up for sale can you believe how cruel people are ,?i don’t know why why you left puppy unattended , was there a reason ? Do hope you get him back soon and they catch the culprit .
;(
I sincerely hope this family gets their dog back. But I also hope they learned a lesson. The puppy was outside for only 30 minutes, unattended. Never mind the horrible outcome that the pup was stolen, puppies can get into a variety of trouble when left alone. Sorry but someone should have been outside with this pup or at the very least watching from a window. And before anyone asks… I have 3 dogs. If they are outside, I am outside. I’m like a mailman, neither wind, nor snow, nor dark of night will keep us from our appointed rounds visiting trees all over our yard… Together.
I never ever leave my dogs outside unless I am around and also don’t post many photos of them for that reason not to give bad people ideas. I would die if they get stolen, they are my children Very sorry about your puppy. Hope it will be found soon

Someone mentioned this in the comments on your site Life With Dogs
Uncanny resemblance and in Virginia.
Wow, I think that is the puppy. Send that link to the writer of the article and the family (if you haven’t already). I hope to read a reunion.
GIve it back d-bags!
If they haven’t already … they need to call the Police and report the situation. The Police will intervene … and help get their dog back … if they have proof of ownership .. like photos and Vet records.
Can’t the ad be tracked and the police check it out?
That’s not the same dog look at the paws
Hope you fine him very soon x
bless
So sorry I’m hoping you get your fur baby back as for this evil maggot …. Your dead when I get a hold of you … I scumbag useless piece of filth….
I pray this baby comes home. I keep an eye on my dog too when she is in the yard. Unfortunately, it’s like a little kid. With the world today, we have to stay close to our loved ones to make sure they are safe. Hoping Dallas comes home!

Prayers Dallas comes home safe and sound!
I can not say this enough. Micro chip your animals! All animals when they go to the vet get scanned. If your dog or cat is stolen or lost, the vet/humane society/shelter can find you. $25 can buy you security. It’s a fast and simple. It goes a long way in theft cases. Now if this dog is chipped by the new owner, proof will be on the new owners.
So sad, what pretty pups!
Sharing, I have a keyed lock on the gates to my dog area, hope you get your baby back safe and sound….make sure you micro-chip if you do. My dogs are only allowed outside to do their business and for leashed walks….
I can’t express how sad, worried & scared I am for the little pup. Help find him/her & get them home. To the disgusting p.o.s. that took the puppy – Karma is seriously gonna MESS YOU UP! If by any chance anyone knows who did this by all means you have full endorsement to MESS THEM UP GOOD TOO.
That person who is on fb if is please do the right thing and contact the family who’s puppy was stoen on new year 2016 day and should never been put up for sale. If you are the one who stole this you are a bad person for doing it. 🙁
I pray she is returned to u
