Cruickshank told the Daily Record the pet owner tossed the ball into the icy lake and the dog ran right after it. Unfortunately, as soon as he caught the ball the frozen surface cracked and the dog fell in.

“We really thought the dog was going to drown and people started to scream, ” said the photographer. “I kept the drone overhead to ensure I could help by knowing exactly where the dog was when a man decided to wade out by breaking through the ice and going to get him.”

It is important to note that both hero rescuer and dog are extremely lucky to have survived. Authorities say people should not attempt such rescues. It is best to call authorities for help and let professionals take care of the situation. This event could have easily ended the man’s and dog’s life, but luckily both are doing very well today.
