Workers from Barker’s Pet Motel in Canada were getting ready to go home when they spotted Maggie outside her kennel. She was lying in front of another crate where two rescue puppies were being kept. It appears the ten-week-old dogs were scared and crying and when she heard their cries, her motherly instincts kicked in, she broke out of her kennel and rushed to comfort them.

According to ABC News, Barker’s Pet Motel was boarding all dogs over night. Maggie had previously had puppies of her own but they had already moved into forever homes. She probably missed her babies and when she heard the cries she did not hesitate to become their surrogate mom.

Alex Aldred works at the pet motel and said they had never seen anything like it before.

“We left work and then we were watching the surveillance cameras while we were out and we saw Maggie was sitting in front of the puppies’ kennels,” said Aldred.

Another worker named Sandy re-entered the facility to check on Maggie and realized she wanted to be near the young ones. The woman opened the crate and let the surrogate mom cuddle with the puppies.

As soon as these four were together, all cries and whines stopped. Everyone seemed happy to be with one another.

Aldred said Sandy stayed in their for about 15 minutes and then said, ‘Well it looks like they need each other,’ and let Maggie stay the night in the their kennel.

The next morning when everyone returned they found a happy surrogate mom and two content and well rested puppies.

Maggie has since found her forever home and thanks to her these little ones found love in an unfamiliar place.

The puppies have yet to find their forever homes. If interested, please contact the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS).
