Farmworkers Trapped in Flooded Area Reunite with Lost Dog

Five people and a dog are thankful to be alive today. The group of farmworkers and their pet spent three days trapped in a flood zone with no access to food or consumable water. Area rescuers worked for hours to locate them and bring them to safety.

Chile’s Arica and Parinacota areas have recently experienced floods due to heavy rains and rivers cresting. It was in this area where the farmworkers tried to escape the rising water levels but unfortunately got trapped. They three nights enduring hunger, thirst and being exposed to the elements.

Ten local firefighter volunteers spent more than six hours walking 3 miles, crossing rivers and maneuvering difficult terrain to reach the victims, and when the farmworkers saw rescuers they erupted in cheers. All five of them had given up hope of ever been found and rescued.

What is most amazing is the flood victims had thought their dog had been lost in the rising waters but when they saw firefighters with their pet, they couldn’t contain their excitement. Even though the flood took all their material processions, their loved dog was alive and well.
