When 6-year-old Feather was just a pup, a run-in with a deadly water moccasin cost her a leg. But she’s gone on to prove that it was no setback to her abilities as a hunting dog. She has since earned the distinction of Master Hunter.

“All of her titles have come after she lost her leg,” Feather’s owner, June Ashford, told Wisconsin ABC affiliate WBAY. “She’s all heart, no quit.”

AKC hunt test judge Tom Hendricks, who owns the land where Feather trains, says she responds very well. “She’s got a big heart, she wants to please, she’s just a great dog.”

He notes that testing at the Master level is difficult, high intensity, but Feather passed with flying colors, field running alongside her four-legged friends with ease.

She serves as an inspiration to people, as well, says Ashford. Feather has done programs with physically challenged children and adults, and serves as proof that nothing has to stop you.

“If you’ve got the will, if you’ve got the talent, you can accomplish anything,” she says.
