He began his shelter tenure as Sir Wiggleton. And that he sat waiting for a forever home for nearly hundred days baffled the folks at Detroit Dog Rescue. He was certainly a sweet candidate for adoption.

Seems the wait was meant to be, because when musician Dan Tillery and his girlfriend, Megan, bought a new home, they were in the market for a fur baby to share it with. They hoped, they told Barkpost, the pooch would be a big, white, block-headed goofball. Enter Sir Wiggs, whose DDR Facebook post read thusly, “Wiggleton has been waiting so patiently for his forever home. This goofy guy does well with other dogs and children…. Wiggleton is a 2-year-old American Bulldog mix that loves the water and is just a big goofball.”

“Ten people tagged me,” Tillery said.

And it appears to be a match made in heaven. Once the new pair’s Cheshire cat-style adoption pic hit the Internet, dog lovers around the world ate it up.

Tillery’s new bud, so cozy in his new digs, is now named Diggy! Diggy’s adoption journey began when he landed in Detroit’s city shelter as a stray, which is where members of the Detroit Dog Rescue, the city’s only no-kill shelter, found him. DDR’s executive director was at the city shelter to pick up a dozen dogs. Diggy was not on the list, but when Kristina Millman-Rinaldi got a look at him, she couldn’t resist.

“He wanted out so bad he was defeated and sad,” she said. “I said, ‘We’ll take him too. Honest to God he was the last one on the truck.”

Now that Diggy is getting assimilated into family life, Tillery is eager to include him in everything, even his music. Though Diggy didn’t take to the guitar right away. Tillery imagines Diggy’s experience with instruments is limited, that he will get used to it in time.

“He’s definitely going to be my partner in crime with music,” he told Barkpost. “I want him to have the best life ever, and I think he’s off to a great start.”
