The Northvale, New Jersey Police are calling a dog a hero after a dog smashed some glass in an effort to get attention to someone needing help.  A couple of women out for a walk reported to police that they heard the sound of glass breaking coming from a home.  When the police arrived, the dog was going nuts trying to get anyone in the area to pay attention.

A press release from the police department read as follows:

“We believe that the dog inside the home heard the two women talking as they walked past the home and broke the glass with its paws in an attempt to get their attention, which led to their owner being rescued.”

According to Northvale Police Chief William Essmann, the dog’s human had fallen ill quite suddenly, and there was no one else in the home to help.  The dog started thrashing about the house, and eventually broke a pane of glass, which alerted passersby to the trouble.  The police were able to gain entry to the easily and get assistance to the injured woman.

She was taken to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.  The dog was also taken to a local animal hospital for treatment, having injured a paw on the broken glass.  The dog is in fine condition and a full recovery isn’t even a question.  As of the writing of this article, the woman taken to the hospital hasn’t had a public update as to her condition.
