As reported in July, 27 emaciated pit bulls were rescued from a Lake Mathews property in Riverside County, CA.  Sadly, eleven dead dogs were also discovered in the filthy, debris-covered house.  The rescued animals were taken to the San Jacinto Animal Shelter for care and treatment, but with many well on the road to recovery, it has become critical to get these dogs to rescue groups, then on to loving homes.

The shelter is actively seeking rescue groups to come forward and help with the dogs.  Wags and Walks adopted five last week, but there are still many that are waiting. While a few have been assessed as having aggression issues, most of the animals appear to be slightly fearful, but warmed up to the interactions, while others actively sought the attention of their handlers.

One poster on the comment thread stated, “Please give these dog more time. Their story has just started spreading across the state and rescues are trying to find spots for them. Please extend their euthanasia date to allow rescues enough time to gather funds and foster homes. Also allow them to be adopted, a waiver can be signed to acknowledge body condition/temperament.”
