Sammy is being called a “medium-sized terrier” for now, but employees at the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center had trouble identifying her breed when he was brought in.
Critically injured after being attacked by two other dogs, the no-kill city shelter is now seeking the public’s help to fund his medical care.
SPAR’s executive director, Nicky Gore-Jones told KTLA that Sammy’s head “virtually had to be sewn back together.”

His injuries caused severe swelling and because of this, Sammy is being fed through a feeding tube that was surgically implanted into his stomach.
Sammy was attacked by the two other dogs he lived with (peacefully until now, it was reported). It’s unclear what prompted the incident.
He remains in grave condition at another veterinary clinic and needs to be closely monitored.
“As a no-kill city shelter, we urgently need major donations to our medical fund to help pay for the sick and injured animals we receive every month,” Gore-Jones said in a news release.
