Pit Bulls get a bad rap as being extremely vicious with a propensity for violent behavior, but that is counter to what experts share about the the breed.  However, just as with any dog, when Pit Bulls are treated well and taken care of properly, they are both loving and loyal.

With that in mind, Austin Pets Alive!Universal K9, and The Animal Farm Foundation are collaborating on a project that is beneficial to Pit Bulls and law enforcement agencies.  The training provided has the main objective of getting these orphan pups out of shelters and the opportunity to become part of an official K9 team.

According to an article on Law OfficerThe Animal Farm Foundation shared, “Instead of spending $10,000 to $15,000 for a trained Belgian or GSD (German Shepard Dog), they are now taking pit bulls from shelters and training them, and they are proving themselves to be amazing police and military K9′s.”

Known for their toughness and obedience, these dogs are ideal for this important job, though it seems the greatest problem officers seem to encounter is often getting the dogs to be aggressive towards people.
