When their owner could no longer care for them, Chicky the Chow and brother, Goofy, a terrier mix — both 6 — were surrendered at the Carson Animal Care Center in Los Angeles.

When the best friends, who were raised together, were separated by shelter staffers, they staged a hunger strike in protest, prompting volunteers to take note and reunite them in the same kennel.

Of course, that changed everything, and the pair were pleased to have one another for support.

What’s more, their story tugged at the heartstrings of New York dog lover, Katy DePasquale. She got in touch with a local rescue, Bark Party, and made plans to bring Chicky and Goofy into her family fold, beginning with getting each of them the medical care they sorely needed.

Once they make it to their new home in New York, Chicky and Goofy will never have to be apart again.

That’s a feel good ending if ever there was!
