Dexter is a happy boy.  He LOVES people, and wants to be the center of attention pretty much all of the time.  Anyone at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California will tell you, he is ALWAYS smiling.  He’s looking for a forever family, and would make a great addition to just about any group.

Let’s see what the shelter has to say about Dexter:

Dexter, our longest term resident. He’s been at our shelter for 3.5 years now and is a senior dog that’s looking for his forever home.  Dexter is an 8-year-old bull terrier mix, who has been at our shelter since May 2013. He is currently our longest-term resident. Dexter loves tennis balls, playing in the water, and scratches behind his ears. He is a big boy but a lap dog at heart. He is always excited to see his human friends and to play with them. As any volunteer can vouch, Dex loves going for walks and trips to the dog park.

He needs to go to a home where he is the only animal and the owner can supervise him when he is outdoors. He has separation anxiety and needs to be kenneled when the owner is gone. He escapes by digging, jumping fences, etc when he is left alone in a yard.

Dexter feeds off the confidence of his trainers. If his owner is confident and knows what they are doing, Dexter is VERY well behaved. He has been doing obedience training with our training and enrichment committee every Saturday morning. Because of the volunteers’ dedication to Dexter’s obedience training and socialization, he has improved his leash walking skills and is working on positively interacting with other dogs.

His adoption fee has been covered by generous donors. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, dewormed, has his flea treatment, and is microchipped. As much as he is loved by our staff and volunteers, Dexter deserves to find a family who can shower him with love and attention. We know Dexter’s forever family is out there!

Since he has separation anxiety and needs to go to a home with no other pets, getting Dexter adopted has been difficult. Valley Animal Center wants Dexter to be able to enjoy his senior years in a loving home where he gets all the TLC he deserves, so we are now looking for a family that would be interested in permanently fostering Dexter.

What does it mean to be a permanent foster? A permanent foster essentially adopts the animal for the rest of their life, but our shelter will continue to pay for their food, veterinary care, and medicine. **Permanent Fostering is only available to those within a 2-hour driving distance of our shelter. Potential foster parents must still meet adoption requirements as a part of our policy**
