Calvin was being use as a bait dog in a dog fighting operation when a good Samaritan found and rescued him.  Hs only about four years old, is a pit bull mix and has just about the sweetest face you have ever seen.  However, his body tells another, and much darker story.

His body is COVERED in bites and scrapes.  Many of the wounds are very deep, and the areas of his body without wounds, is covered by scars from former wounds.  One only needs to look at Calvin to see that this poor dog has been to hell and back several times.

“This dog has been used as a bait dog over and over and over again, and yet he will come over and lick your face and wag his tail,” said Dr. Michael McFadden, a veterinary surgeon.

Calvin is now with the Blue Pearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital in Spring, Texas.  He has many people working with him to help him recover, but he needs A LOT of treatment and surgery.  And as we all know, this is going to cost a lot of money as well.  He has a lacerated Achilles tendon, and the number of bite wounds will also require surgery.

“It just tears me up to see people treating animals like this. It is very hard to know that people would use these animals, they are so helpless, and they take advantage of that,” Corrine Manley, who is helping to care for Calvin.  “We’re hoping for about $5,000 just to get his back leg repaired again,” Manley said. “That’s the biggest thing we are going for right now, just to get him able to walk again”
