We told you about Teresa a couple of months ago – she’s the dog who survived almost being butchered at a dog meat market in Thailand, and was left terribly mutilated.  She was rescued from Thailand, and a family in the US promised to adopt her and keep her safe forever.  Now, she is FINALLY home.

Back in January, a man made an attempt to slaughter Teresa with the intent of turning her into food.  He botched the job terribly, and poor Teresa was left with only half a face.  Once her story hit the internet, it quickly went viral, and caught the attention of Karen Quigley and her friend Michelle Weirich.

Quigley and Weirich both knew that had to help, so they set up a GoFundMe page for Teresa, and quickly raised over $11,000.  The money was used to bring Teresa to the US, and to pay for a lifesaving surgery to remove and repair the damage done to her teeth and tongue.

“She can do everything and that’s what’s so remarkable about Teresa.  She eats hard food, she eats wet food, (and) really I haven’t found anything she can’t do,” Quigley said.  “She’s so amazing because she’s really so happy.  She wakes up happy, she loves to run in the yard.”

“She can always breathe through her mouth, but the fact she can breathe through her nose just increases her quality of life so that’s great.  She’s functional, she’s able to eat and drink, and play with toys, so that’s the important thing,” Dr. John Lewis said.  Dr. Lewis is the surgeon helping with Teresa’s recovery.

Along with providing Teresa with a new forever home and family, Teresa will also be tested out to be a certified therapy dog.  The hope is to have her at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, helping out with disfigured children.  Her training will be provided by a special-ed teacher at Rowan College.
