Let’s face it, a shelter is a scary place.  Maybe not for us humans, but for a dog it can be downright terrifying.  For Wilma, our LWD Adoptable Dog of the Day, this was exactly the case.  She was picked up as a stray by the Fulton County Dog Shelter in Atlanta, Georgia, and they were able to get a foster for her.  However, she really needs to be with a forever family who can help her feel a sense of permanency and security.

As mentioned, Wilma was picked up by shelter staff as a stray.  She was one of a few dogs that had been abandoned around a local dog park, and shelter staff could tell right away things weren’t going to be easy.  It was pretty clear that Wilma was really afraid of humans, and because she was a stray, it’s almost impossible to tell exactly what she went through.  It took quite some time, but they were able to earn her trust and rescue her.

When Wilma was brought to the shelter, it was just too much for her to handle.  All the new smells, the noise of all the other dogs there, and the uncertainty proved to be overwhelming for her.  Shelter staff worked really hard to get her into a foster home which is great.  However, Wilma really needs a kind and loving person who will show her that not ALL humans are bad.

Beautiful Wilma is shy, but that’s not all.  Once you do gain her trust, you’ll find out that she’s a big sweetie who only exists to make you happy.  Regardless of what horrors she’s been though, she’s still full of love to give.  Wilma would most likely do best in a home where she is an only child, and cats are not a good idea either.  She should also be around older kids if any, who are capable of understanding her situation.
